Bach - St John Passion @ the Proms today Our lovely Lucy Crowe et al... joins Sir Roger Norrington with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. The cool James Gilchrist & Proms newbie Clint van der Linde ... Some Bach info :) Johann Sebastian Bach came from a family of musician spanning many generations about 60 plus musicians - such as organist, composers etc. Born in the same year as the great Handel (1685), Bach started playing the organ at the age of 10.... He married twice & had 9 surviving children out of 20. Bach created musical interpretations of the Bible using choruses, arias and recitatives - such as the Passions, …. Did you know his name meant - a stream”? Some of Bach’s compositions are quite methodological; he tends to compose for certain audience rather than the masses with catchy tunes. Thus you need to understand him to enjoy his other calculative and technical stuff. Overall, he did everything in his life, as a composer & was way ahead of his time - he goes beyond baroque … Bach is a colossus...beneath whom all musicians pass and will continue to pass. Mozart is the most beautiful, Rossini the most brilliant, but Bach is the most comprehensive: he has said all there is to say.
