Back at the beginning of this month, my wife and kids stayed at a motel in Austin- it was slim pickins since South by Southwest was in full bloom. They had a laptop, a Kindle, and a tablet stolen from their room while they were gone one day. They were staying there with our friends, who were in a different room. The friends left that motel and checked into a Holiday Inn, because they saw rats IN THEIR ROOM. After my wife came back and found the pooters missing, they were too worried to sleep in that motel, so they camped out with our good friends in their room, came back and checked out the next morning, and the next night my wife payed for her own room at the friends hotel. This motel, Extended Stay America, was supposed to replace the stolen items, unless they were able to recover them from the person who had them- the same person who was shown on the motels computer to have been given the key to the room. Ive talked with AIG, who is the insurance company for the motel. Their rep says they will not pay to have the items replaced new, but only for used items from ebay. Its a $200 difference. That doesnt sit well with me. So far, Ive had a really hard time getting the particular motels manager on the phone. I looked up their mother ship, but havent found many numbers yet. If I cant get the motel to make up the difference, I plan to make our experience known online. Anyone have any suggestions? I think were getting the short end of the stick currently- what do you think? Should we just accept the 80% check and drive on, or should that company pay full replacement value? Please, be objective.
