Back down to the city. After being up in the highlands and out on the islands for the last few days the busy roads and the people density further South is making me feel a bit claustrophobic. I suppose I’m missing the highlands – the large-scale majestic beauty and remoteness, the smell of the sea and the sight of the mountains and the islands, near and in the distance. The sense of space, the salty air and the seaweed aromas, the feeling of being on the edge of the wilderness where wildlife rules both on land and in water; the almost endless twilight; the easy familiarity of the people. Oh yes, I look forward to a return. With the help a god it won’t be too long away. “Haste ye back” they say up here when you’re leaving – what a lovely phrase.
