Back early to work on my lecture on Wong Kar Wai for tomorrow - saw some great flicks today: (TFFs quality is great this year, either that or Ive been lucky) - An Honest Liar - the story of the Amazing Randy - an ethical magician who sets out to disprove pseudo-science and faith healing - fascinating film (and I interviewed him today - soon to be up at The Film Stage) The Newburgh Sting - a fantastic behind the headlines thriller about a group of black kids entrapped by the FBI, DHS, and NYPD, it will run on HBO this spring. 5 to 7 - a lovely NYC based romantic drama staring Anton Yelchin and Berenice Marlohe (and a hilarious cameo by Glen Close) - its smart, entertaining and a little tragic. (and) 1971 - another documentary about FBI overreach - here exposed by a group of activists who break into a small field office in Media, PA and investigative reporters who dig (and ask the right questions) to uncover more to the story (I cant wait for the BridgeGate documentary).
