Back from feeding the young BC Ive been calling Gabriel. Big breakthrough today: he came out of hiding right away. Hes still very wary and approached the bowl slowly but it didnt take him more than a few minutes. Whilst he was having breakfast I kept talking to him. He watched but the fear that used to occupy his expression has thinned to wariness. He kept glancing up, not pausing in his repast as I kept talking to him. As he continued to eat, a lady stopped to chat. She rolled her window down and asked if I was feeding the puppy. I said indeed I was. She said shed been feeding the mama off and on for three years. The people who supposedly have these dogs never feed them and they never spay or neuter. I told her if he accepts me hes got a home with love and lots of boisterous sisters. I didnt even get the period on the sentence when she rejoindered IM GOOD!! Im good, too. Lord, the last thing I need is another dog but he needs me. Even though people are occasionally feeding him Im the only one attempting to make friends with him. He finished his brekky but instead of sailing off way out in the field to hide among the weeds, he hung out about 25 feet away. He just watched and listened as I continued to speak to him. Hes thinking about it. His world has changed and hes trying to figure out what to make of it. It will take a lot more time before hes ready to accept friendship but at least hes considering the notion.
