Back from vacation! Here’s the tally and what we did: Days gone: 13 Miles driven: 4,242 States visited: 11 (IN, IL, MO, OK, TX, NM, AZ, UT, CO, NE, IA) National Parks Visited: 4 (Petrified Forest, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon) Family members seen: 7 Old friends seen: 3 New baby nephews met: 1 Things we did and saw: • Drove (on modern Interstates) the path of old Route 66 as far as Flagstaff. • Crossed the Mississippi (twice). • Visited the exact geographic center point of Route 66 in Adrian, Texas. • Saw (in Shamrock, Texas) the Conoco tower that was the model for Ramone’s Body Art in Cars. • Watched Emily win a national championship in Arabian Western Pleasure riding. • Took that left toin at Albukoikee (actually, we went straight through). • Crossed the Continental Divide (twice). • Saw the famous Meteor Crater near Winslow, AZ (amazing). Did not stand on a corner in Winslow and get ogled by any female truck drivers. • Visited the beautiful resort town of Sedona, AZ. • Took a Pink Jeep Tour in Sedona (highly recommended). • Visited Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ. • Saw the Grand Canyon. Really want to see more of it. • Rafted on the Colorado River (flat water trip upstream of the Grand Canyon in Glen Canyon). • Visited the Navajo Reservation in northern AZ. • Backpacked in Zion National Park (a long story that needs a long post of its own). • Drove across the desolate I-70 corridor in Utah. Wow. • Crossed the Rockies. • Made it home a day early! Had an awesome time. Happy to be back. Pictures coming.
