Back home from Moms safe & sound. ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK GOD FOR RUMBLE STRIPS! The trip home was uneventful The one up was pretty eye opening! I went to sleep on 69 with the cruise set at 72 mph. I was a couple minutes from getting off 69 on to 218. Less than 10 minutes from Moms. Went up over the over pass by the Amercian Legion at Van Buren - AWAKE. I had Johnny Horton cranked up singing NORTH TO ALASKA - trying to stay awake. Already had stopped 3 times & got out to walk around & wake up. I left down here at 4 something in the dark so it a long trip. I needed to be there by 8 AM when the caregiver leaves. Anyway, it was daylight & almost 8 AM. I was cruising at 72mph in the driving lane headed north & suddenly I heard the rumble strip & my eyes opened to see me heading northwest into the grass with traffic coming south. Johnny was still singing North to Alaska...... :-) This meant of course that I drifted out of the driving lane - clear across the passing lane & was aimed at about a 10 oclock position. Hit the rumble strip & woke up. Then hit the grassy rocky area as I steered back to the north throwing rocks! I went up on the 2 wheels on the passenger side & completely doing a donut at at 72 mph. When I looked again I was heading SOUTH at about a 10 oclock position in the northbound lanes. I was thinking OH NO I CANT DING MY BLUE BABY! as I was skidding backwards, so I was stomping on the brake trying to stop before I slid backwards into the guardrail. All the sudden the skidding stopped & I was gently rolling backwards out of traffic to within 1 of the rail on the driving lane side!!!!!!!!!! I was of course jumping out to see if I had any damage. Man, that rubber smell sure did stink! Not a scratch on Blue. A man about mid 60s had just pulled off & put his flashers on. His car was exactly like Moms. :-) He was waving at traffic to slow as they were coming over the overpass. He grabbed my arm & pulled me back as I was trying to check out the other side of the car. I said Ive got to make sure it is ok so I can get going! He is yelling over traffic sounds about the traffic going 80 mph & that I am going to get hit. Well, I thanked him for stopping & got back in little blue to do a u turn head back north. The help from up above was really appreciated!!!!!!!! There is no way I should not have been creamed by traffic or flipped when I was up on the 2 wheels, except my guardian angels were protecting me. Just some burnt rubber & not a scratch! Going to have to go to the circle meeting Friday night to see which one it was. Yes, again - there are some of you shaking your head thinking I am nuts. BUT there are some of you who know I am not. :-) The moral to this story is DO NOT DRIVE IF YOU ARE SLEEPY! I could have killed someone. :-(
