Back home from a 20 day trip to France - Paris - Marseilles( with trips to Avignon and several small beach stops around Marseilles before a 4 hour drive to Barcelona for a week ironically devoid of actual summer weather. After other distractions, a trip back via Marseilles again, then Paris and finally home to London. All in all, a totally enjoyable time away, especially the trips in France. I have always found Paris and the French rather haughty but I must confess, they have a lot to be proud of. Things just seem to work in France and in an effortlessly chic way! The people, the rail system, the seamlessly enjoyable motorways which come at a cost but well worth the effort. Even roadside cafes in France are just the business...a total delight in motorway travel. A fact made very clear when one gets to Spain and a totally different kind of reality. I do not mean by this to knock Spain, the Spanish have always been and will always be my favourite European people but the crises (and there still is one) is biting and very hard at that! As for the circuit/scene. I chided my friend, Michael Kaleb a few days ago in his summation about the homogeneity of the scene around the World but he did make some very good points! All I can add to that is that one needs to give Barcelona a bit of a rest - it is getting very trite and tired...a new rejuvenation is definitely needed and I am doing just that for the next few years. All said and done, Summer 2014 was a blast and am glad to be back home!
