Back home from my latest adventure. I have had lots of message about the trip so here is a quick summary. The venue is an old pit with average depths around 20 feet and is a club water and certainly not a stock pond being fished all season by the members for a wonderful array of mature carp. I try to help as much as possible but out of respect of local anglers its not fair to say anymore. I made the 3 hour trip in the night and arrived while still dark but that didnt stop me wandering around the venue and locating the carp. It was then a case of a few hours sleep in the carp park ready to start in the morning (2 night only rule). To begin with I fished close in (30 yards) hopeful that the carp would come to me without being spooked by the lines but 12 hours later and only 1 fish it was obvious I needed to cast further out which I did to 100 yards. The area I selected was just short of a clear spot landing on thick silkweed and indeed if I felt the lead land on a solid bottom I would recast to find vegetation. To present my pop up I used a ESP chod rig fished on the same companies tapered leaders in weedy green with 12lb Syncro XT line. Boilies were S-core and I started with 2 kilos and then topped up with half a kilo every couple of carp. From the off things went mad continuing with 2 carp in the net at the same time on a few occasions. In total I caught 23 fish over 20lbs,lost 3 including a lump which did hurt for a while but was soon forgotten with the next run! The biggest edge however was nothing I did,its September and the carp are beginning to feed in earnest! Hope this helps.
