Back in 1981 about 5:30 am one morning, dancing in Xenons Disco in NYC I looked up and realized I was dancing with Robin Williams instead of that other husband of mine. I remember he and I in my come get me pumps were the same height! Over many years through the ups and downs of life and sobriety, I remember Robin quoted as saying cocaine is Gods way of saying you are making too much money. In 2007 at the 25th Anniversary dinner for The Betty Ford Center Robin shared his experience, strength and hope mixed with his offbeat humor, just a year after his relapse. It was sobering and hysterical at the same time. It has been reported that Robin had recently checked himself back into treatment to fine tune his sobriety and I suspect depression was the culprit. Over the years I have lost friends in sobriety to depression, but it always breaks my heart and losing Robin is no different. I choose to focus on the joy, the laughter, and his sharing of his experience, strength and hope.
