Back in 1981 when I was in college, our computer science students traveled to Perrysburg (a suburb of Toledo, OH) to see her speak. Admiral Hopper was a computer scientist back in the days of vacuum tubes and wires which filled entire rooms. She invented COBOL, the most commonly used programming language of pre-windows systems, discovered the first "bug" ( a dead moth in a relay), and was a true pioneer in the field in addition to being a career Navy officer. She is deceased, but so much of computer technology today is built on foundations she laid.
