Back in 2008, a lot of people believed that the election of a black President was a sign that our wounds from racism had been healed. Clearly, that was an illusion. Instead, it has served to rip the scab from the wound, exposing the gangrenous infection eating our society from within. To quote Louis Brandeis: Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants. My hope is that, by seeing and claiming our collective racism and bigotry, we will as a nation begin to heal.
