Back in 2009, the worlds most hated director, Uwe Boll made an unexpectedly awesome thriller of sorts called Rampage. It was a unique and inspired personal project that was so well directed (given its limited resources), it left a haunting nauseating feeling behind after all these years. Its like Boll became a good director for this one project. Now, in 2014, star Brendan Fletcher reprises the role he was born to play, in a sequel everyone was worried about... and with good reason. Rampage 2: Capital Punishment still boasts some moments of effective direction, a solid lead performance and the disturbing mean-streak that made its predecessor so memorable, but unfortunately its very quick to lose steam and become a rather tedious affair. What begins surprisingly good, setting up an ambitious plot with the prospects of actually doing things differently this time around, albeit still with more of the same grotesquely dark humour fans will have come to expect, it gets a little off track when it ventures down the route of being a more pretentious political critique, that pretty much inanely rehashes the same moral questions about society, etc weve all heard before, though with no subtlety whatsoever. The director basically appears on screen to state his own political views in one scene. Just, no... Cinematography, soundtrack and overall production values are decent given the shoestring budget, and while the first act displays the right kind of creativity and horror to make this just slightly better than most people had anticipated, its still not exactly worth your while. 4.5/10 River, dont bother ;)
