Back in 2011 Cornel West and Tavis Smiley embarked on a tour to raise consciousness of the plight of the poor and those in poverty. I think it is important to remember this tour of only two years ago. And I post it now. Capital at this time only needs to find the leader who can succeed in making the people blame the other party for what capital needs done, and then that leader performs the needs of capital under the cover of that blame. Obama will come out of this current game of musical chairs between the right wing and those who collude with the right wing intact. Provided the American people only go as far as to blame the Republican party for the current crisis, which is true in terms of instigation and they should be denounced, but look no further in their analysis save for that blame which is the favored analysis of victims (victims end analysis once they find someone to blame) the next phase in this war on the poor will go without criticism and unabated. One must remember that Obamacare came out of ideas from the Heritage foundation and is akin Romneycare. It is in origin a right of center conservative initiative. This is in keeping with a President who has not demonstrated a sensitivity to the plight of the poor that responds critically and acts against ideas of austerity and privatization. This administration, with or without a compromise with the Republicans, will emerge with unilateral power to preside over a default at a time and place of its choosing. Now or later. It will be able to shape that default for public consumption in anyway it feels proper. We have a military currently capable of defending that default when radical deleveraging becomes key to the survival of the billionaires stake in the financial markets themselves. It will occur simultaneously with a kind of orgiastic privatization of public wealth in a manner one hasnt seen since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The key in any eventual default is finding a way to keep the financial markets open, while denying services to the people, and maintaining enough social order for the financial markets to function. If the right hand cant administer it the left hand will. We need to think. Currently the only bandwidth of political ideas we are operating upon are historically right of center to far right. You can put Obamas face on it but it is still a historic right of center policy at best. The nexus of which you find best explicated ideologically in the cooperation between neo-liberals such as Obama with the neo-conservative agenda which is personified by his own cabinet. Even with this turn of events in favor of the Administration it still signals that the neo-conservative foreign policy, which the Obama Administration has mastered, is to quickly become the domestic one. The one signal I can imagine telling us we are changing direction would be the current Administration devoting itself publicly and arranged its policies around a triad of social justice, equality, and extension of once were only human right into protection and cooperative management of the biosphere. The resulting retrofitting of the United States would create full employment, an explosion in green technological advance, as well as require a comprehensive free education of the American people in not only to use this new technology as consumer, but to build it as a producer. It would create a renaissance in American culture and we would be able to work our way out the current crisis. Obviously I am not holding my breath. What I expect is that the Democratic Administration will preside over policies that lead to default, but call it by some other name, which is exactly the tactic I would expect of a Republican Administration. The difference being in brand and degrees but not kind.
