Back in 2012 my 3 man team of Marine Corps EOD technicians were responsible for ridding our area of roadside bombs (IEDs). It was not uncommon for the taliban to make bombs out modified motorcycles by packing the voids with explosives and we had encountered a couple throughout our deployment. The motorcycles were all baskets by our standards but after being 6 months without my knees in the breeze I was getting itchy. My team goes out to respond to a suspected motorcycle borne IED in local market and had it disarmed in a matter of minutes. Long story short I decided I was taking that bike back to our forward operating base (FOB) to wrench on and ride. Within 24 hours that thing ran like a raped ape. Heres the specs of what we dubbed the FOB BOB: 20 inch apes bent out of aluminum tent tubing Shorty pipes (we just cut the damn things off) The extended throttle cable was made of discarded communications wire. No clutch (we ran out of said communication wire. Kick start in neutral, roll on the MFer, kick it in gear and hold on!) The head light held the explosives of a previous IED. A sketch ass jockey shifter also made of bent tent poles. And one slick as rattle can paint job. That was the best thing the taliban ever gave us. Ive Included the before picture of the smashed up bike, the build and the final product. All in all not bad for a 24 hour build and some random junk for parts. Brings a new meaning to bombing around. Let me know what you think Ride on! -SPOOKY US MARINE EOD
