Back in April when I went to visit Stephen Sutton in hospital I asked his Mum Jane (whod been by his side through it all and was still remarkably positive) who her favourite celebrity was. She didnt even pause for thought, Michael Ball she answered with a smile. The former City, Everton & Leicester fullback with only one England cap to his name? I replied puzzled. She of course meant the singer, actor & West End mega star. Sat in the hospital room I rang him (Id become pals after starting alongside him in Sweeney Todd!). I explained the situation & asked him if hed take Janes mind off things for a few minutes, he said of course, put her on. He chatted to her for ten minutes and Stephen was laughing at her face and reaction she looks like a 13 year old talking to Harry Styles! he laughed. She already had tickets for tonights show in Lytham St Annes & he invited her to see him backstage before the show for a hug, she was made up. Fast forward to tonight and he was a man of his word. Not only did he meet Stephens Mum & Nana but once on stage he dedicated Love Changes Everything to Stephen & Jane. The crowd were lovely and emotional. Thank you to Michael for going above and beyond, a genuinely lovely gentleman.
