Back in Istanbul. I was not looking forward to lugging all my luggage (read: instruments) across the city, from the airport to my friends home-- especially the last stretch, from the metro. But no sooner than I had stepped off the metro, a Syrian war refugee saw me struggling with my load, and came and offered to help. He carried my sitar, oud, and one fairly heavy bag the full mile, and then up the stairs to the apartment where I stay. I tried to offer him some money, but he wouldnt take it. He said he also plays oud, so were brothers. I am so thankful for the kindness of strangers and inspired to be the kind stranger in other peoples lives, whenever I can.
