Back in NY..appointments are tomorrow. NY is COLD so Chad and I are enjoying a relaxing day/night in our hotel...he has been sleeping for a while so my mind has had time to wonder...so I share this with you... People with cancer are heroic. They fight a disease that terrifies everyone. They are strong because they endure treatments that can feel worse than the actual malignancies. They are brave because their lab tests come back with news they don’t want to hear. The reality of life with cancer is very different from the image they try to portray. Their fight is simply a willingness to go through treatment because, frankly, the alternative sucks. They endure pain and sickness for the chance to feel normal down the road . They build up an emotional tolerance and acceptance of things they can’t change. Faith kicks in to take care of the rest. The truth is that if someone you love has cancer, they probably won’t be completely open about what they’re going through because they’re trying so hard to be strong. What YOU can do for your friends or family with cancer... Let them experience real emotions..they cannot be positive 100% of the time... Ask them Whats up rather than How they feel ...let them talk about their life rather than their illness Forgive them...there are days that they are not themselves because of their illness... Listen to them....try to talk less and listen more..after all, they have so much on their minds... Take nothing for granted...be grateful for the life you have, cherish moments, not things...they do.... Be thankful...for all the doctors and nurses that are trying...you may want to blame them when things dont go as planned, but the truth is, they are working around the clock to help save the life of your loved one.... Chad Oltrogge, thank you for spending nights talking to me, sharing with me and showing me what you want and need....thank you for loving me so fiercely and allowing me to love you back. Thank you for building a beautiful family with me and making the childrens home their safe place. Thank you for making your arms my safe place. Thank you for showing me a strength and bravery beyond anything Ive ever seen.....I love you forever and always...
