Back in late April you can see here one of the few man made sources of water for all the nearby Maasai people and their animals. (There are no lakes or streams except during the times when it does rain.) This was a small shrinking stagnant pond then... They have now gone another month with no rain at the end of this their normal rainy season with little to no rain. Their ponds which they all use for drinking and bathing unfiltered just as you see it (which we would dare not imagine to drink from), is their only source of water and life. They sometimes have to walk all day long just to find one of these dug run-off pond reservoirs and they are all drying up, as well some natural deep spots in the creek beds that used to hold some stagnate water are also gone. Even stagnate water was still a life source. The undertaking to help the Maasai who live over thousands upon thousands of acres in the rift valley of Kenya is a massive undertaking. Their animals are beginning to die for lack of forageable food and water...as they drive their herds of cattle closer up the mountains close to Nairobi in search of food and water, their cattle are getting stolen and slaughtered by thieves looking for easy money. In addition most Maasai travel by foot alone, with no transportation so all the region is seeing a spike in costs of food due to the drought..it is a regional doubling of food costs causing great hardship and suffering on many. These next 6 months are looking like a serious crisis for hundreds of thousands of Maasai men, women and Children as they seek to survive. Pray for them....specifically pray for supernatural rains to come. May God hear our and their prayers and help. We are helpless to do much more than watch and pray without major massive outreach by large numbers of people and their governments to help, because this affects not one or two families, but an entire people group of Kenya and Tanzania. Pray for Rain as this is our quickest means of relief. Thank you to all who love them enough to pray and seek to promote this need.
