Back in the 1970s I was regularly recording a fiddler and banjo player who was in his eighties at the time and from central West Virginia moved into southern Ohio. One song he played on banjo he would NOT play until he said a little rhymed chant. Mean old Barney grub and dig. Raise more souls than a whistle pig. I wont give you the name of the song as it would give the answer away. Who knows what animal is the whistle pig?????
