Back in the 80s I had seen images of car manufacturing in Korea in India Today. The article had compared the production in Korea with that in India. India was pitiful. I had then thought and wished what if we were out there among the top? Pipe dream it had seemed then. But that pipedream became a reality. India is now the 6th largest automotive manufacturer in the world. Of course the naive dream had not known the costs involved. I now have a new dream, hopefully less naive. What if we were there along with Helsinki? Would it be a dream worth it? Helsinki aims to transcend conventional public transport by allowing people to purchase mobility in real time, straight from their smartphones. The hope is to furnish riders with an array of options so cheap, flexible and well-coordinated that it becomes competitive with private car ownership not merely on cost, but on convenience and ease of use.
