Back in the day One of those stories Ill never forget I was 14 yrs old and it was baseball season. My dad was coaching and we had a big game that night. It was my job to call all the players and remind them of the game. That was a pretty big job back then. No internet. Just the old rotary dial phone. Well I was calling around and I called Gary Bunch. Now Gary was a really good player. He was our catcher, a really good catcher, and a power hitter who batted clean up and probably the best player on the team. But he was unpredictable. Well I called him and he said he couldnt make it to the game. He had to work Work? What? Man you gotta be at this game!!! We need ya!! I gotta work or Ill get fired. I cant miss! You got a job? Where at? What kind of job? Im washing dishes over here at the cafe in owasso on Main Street So I hung up the phone and told my mom Gary couldnt make it to the game. My mom got on the phone and called around. She called everybody. Called Garys mom. Called the cafe. Lol. She was a go getter when she wanted to be! That night Gary played ball and my mom went to the cafe and washed dishes Gary got his money and mom did what moms did back in those days I dont remember who won the game. I do remember Gary smiling about being there and mom smiling because the whole thing made her feel good. The whole thing made me proud of mom. Back in the day......
