Back in the days when there was a visitor a child knew for sure that he would be sent to the store (a general dealer) spaza shops were not popular in those days to buy a cold drink and a packet of biscuits. In winter days a child would be sent to buy amagwinya (vetkoeks) while the mother or elder sister was making tea or coffee for the guest. It never happened that a visitor would come and go without a treat. If there was a tree they would go pick some peaches from the tree or some tomatoes from the garden, depending on the season, to give the guest to take with home. Nowadays things have changed. A visitor would be too lucky to be offered a glass of water let alone food. Nowadays people want to be given a notice of your visit. Gone are the days where a visitor would just come without an appointment and still be treated like a king. Back in the days if you visit people during meal time they would say uzelwe yindoda ufika kudliwa and they would gladly accommodate you. The mother always served extra just in case a visitor comes. This was one value of ubuntu.
