Back in the early 1980s my band played every Wednesday night at Steamboat on 6th St. One Wednesday night stands out in my memory Robin Williams was still touring as a stand up and after his gig at The Paramount he came to Steamboat. He sat in the first table of the balcony throughout our second set with a big hat pulled down on his head as a sort of disguise. Eventually when we took a break he came down to talk to us. He was very friendly and spent the break with us in the basement break room. We talked him into jumping up on stage and he proceeded to do a 30 minute impromptu comedy set. The word spread down 6th street that he was in Steamboat and before long the club was packed with people in a frenzy over seeing the TV/Film/comedy star up close. It got so crazy that he finally had to be escorted out of the club for his safety. In the ensuing mayhem somebody stole his hat. Before leaving he reintroduced the band, naming us CONFUSION.... Years later when our other singer Phil Ritcherson lived in San Francisco he ran into Mr Williams who immediately recognized him shouting Hey its the guy from Confusion in Austin... RIP Robin Williams you will be missed
