Back to working on a DYI vacuum chamber large enough to stabilize - TopicsExpress

Back to working on a DYI vacuum chamber large enough to stabilize wood for knife handles. I am thinking a large enough chamber would be good for rifle stocks as well. A stabilized rifle stock would not be appreciably heavier, but would be stronger and just about weather proof without having to laminate. Here at Drumwinds we are re-organizing the shop and creating the tools needed for long term work. This will stop the on again off again shop schedule (waiting for wood, etc.) as well as saving money. Stabilized woods have become the standard in the knife making industry with surface finishes being now passé. American climates, other than the desert variety, means heat, cold and humidity into the extreme end of the scale, so knives have begun to reflect this thinking. While G-10 is indeed tough material it still is not as warm to the touch or eye as wood or other organic material. Further, G-10 does not warm your hand on those cold winter mornings, so who needs numb fingers?
