Back when I worked at Da Internet Cafe in Waikiki, one of its former owners was a little less than scrupulous. His mentality was very much finders keepers, to the point where he wiped and resold any phone he could get his hands on. One day, he asked me to make sure some iPhones he had acquired were clean and, if not, to wipe them clean. Luckily for my conscience, the first two had already been reset to factory settings. The third phone, however, belonged to someone who worked in Waikiki - someone with whom I had at least ten mutual friends on Facebook. As the social equivalent of Shang Tsung, I knew I had to return the phone to its rightful owner. I was able to arrange a handoff of the phone to his boss later in the day. A few hours later, he posted on Facebook that his phone had been recovered, and that he was overjoyed. Consequently, so was I. Reports are coming in on Facebook today that the man in question has passed away. I dont know how, I dont know when or why, but Im glad that I was able to contribute to his life in some capacity. Life is short. If your father embarrasses you in front of an attractive woman? It happens. If you trip over your words to where you want to say hard disk but wind up talking about erections, instead? It happens. That isnt to say you should take being beaten up, cheated on, sacrificed to a higher power, etc. lightly, but rather, learn from it. Evolve. Help others evolve. Make the most of every second. Your life isnt over until it is.
