Back yesterday from Moz - a week-long trip which included three main localities- Gorongosa Mountain, Mphingwe and Rio Savane. We had almost a full-house of specials including great views of Alethe, Akalat, Pitta, Bee-eater, Snipe and Oriole. Also managed to see a host of great birds including Rufous-bellied Heron, many Palm-nut Vultures, Bat Hawk, African Cuckoo-Hawk, Ayres Hawk-Eagle, Western and Southern Banded Snake-eagles, Honey-Buzzard, Peregrine (subsp calidus?), Lesser Spotted and African Crowned Eagles, Dickinsons Kestrel, African Pygmy-Goose, Lesser Jacana, Red-chested Flufftail, Black-rumped Buttonquail, Bronze-naped Pigeon, Blue-spotted Wood-dove, Grey-headed Parrot, Green Malkoha, Pennant-winged Nightjar, Mottled and Bohms Spinetail, Silvery-cheeked Hornbill, Green-backed and Speckle-throated Woodpeckers, African Broadbill, African golden-Oriole, Tiny Greenbul, Stripe-cheeked Greenbul, Collared Palm-thrush, Chirinda Apalis, Singing and Short-winged Cisticola, Moustached and Broad-tailed Warblers, Livingstones Flycatcher, Vanga Flycatcher, Chestnut-fronted Helmet-Shrike, Western VIolet-backed and Copper Sunbird, Red-headed Quelea, Black-winged Bishop, Brown-throated Golden-weaver, Green Twinspot, Broad-tailed Paradise-Whydah, Cabaniss Bunting and of course Locust Finch. Not much luck yet with the special cuckoos.
