Background: this is 1 1/2 year-old Freyja, the sable and my fearful dog, and 2 1/2 year-old Schatzi, the black, very smart, very confident dog. Both are females. We also have 2 males, 3 1/2 year-old Luger and 4 1/2 month-old Rommel. All but Rommel, who is too young yet, are spayed/neutered. We started Freyja on Prozac a month and a half ago. Ive seen a lot of improvement in her anxiety levels...things that would send her running for her safe hidey-holes either dont seem to startle her anymore or her revovery time is much quicker. Her hurdle now is still her not trusting my hubby...but were working on it!! Question: Along with her increased confidence, Ive noticed increased puppy type play jumping and mouthing me and general rough play with the rest of the pack. I have also noted a bit of back and forth between the girls in what I would call dominance behaviors, mounting, getting the neck up over each other. It has stopped short of a true fight each time and they shake it off and a half hour later they are playing together as usual. Is this an age thing? Freyja reaching a normal maturity? Or do you think this is due to the medication making her feel more confident in challenging the pecking order? While on one hand I worry about issues arising between my girls when we have previously had a good pack dynamic, on the other I wonder if this may not be a positive sign of her confidence? Any thoughts or advice on things I should watch for in the upcoming months?
