Backpass, December 11 English Coach of Nigerian Premier basketball league champions Kano Pillars Sanni Ahmed says Pillars withdrawal from the African clubs champions cup in Tunisia will not be a big deal as this is not the first time such will be happening in the competition. Ahmed whose side were drawn in group A in the draws conducted yesterday in Tunis made reference to a similar occurrence that surfaced in the womens version of the African clubs champions cup where a team also pulled out and were just officially removed from the fixture. Meanwhile, assistant director of communication FIBA Africa Segun Ikuesan has described Kano Pillars withdrawal from this years African champions cup as a big blow to the competition. Ikuesan noted that the withdrawal will not have any consequence on the team or the country in the game of basketball but that it could affect their chances or the chances of other teams in Nigeria that will want to explore the wild card option in future. Elsewhere, as Nigerias representatives, Mark Mentors flag off their African club championship campaign, captain of the team, Stanley Gumut has revealed that the teams mentality going into the championship is that they are not representing Mark Mentors, but the entire Nigerians at the championship, as he believes that the pride of the nation is at stake.
