Backup team complaints that backup taking lot of time as comparison fewer days before. SQL Bangalore :- This i already inform you that there is no change in size or no special bulk transcation passed these days. Size of the database is 6310895.13 MB. Currently i am not able to run dbcc checkdb in this db because it will take around 11 to 16 hours. so we plan to run checkdb with physical only on coming weekend 1 mdf + 15 ndf + 1 log :- all are in same drive but we create several mount points for storing those I made this 13 points and try to figure out problem but still same problem. All 13 points are clear now (1) Virus scans are turned on may cause slowness. (2) Install new service pack and security update in respected servers (both sql and windows) (3) Mistakenly incorrect parameter applied in storage during backup or parameter reset automatically (4) Try to investigate is there any windows/application/sql jobs running during backup time (5) Try to investigate is any bulk copy of data happen during backup time (6) Tape drives in bad shape may cause slowness (7) Try to investigate backup tool correctly configured (8) Need to check the hardware like tape and disk drives which associated with backup are correctly configured or Check the fragmentation (9) Try to take backup with other tools if possible (10) Try to Investigate with networks team, is any connection fluctuating or disconnected during backup time (11) Need to check the heavy paging happen during that time (12) Heavy load on RAM may cause slowness. Check the physical memory status during backup time (13) virus may also effect slowness. Try to check virus on disk drive I will trouble shoot this issue by enabling Trace Flag i create one temporary db and restore with 17 gb backup in same instance enable following trace on flag DBCC TRACEON (3605) :- This trace flag send all information to error log DBCC TRACEON (3004) & DBCC TRACEON (3014) :- These 2 trace flag provides detailed & step by step information regarding backup and restore process. dbcc traceon (3004, 3014, 3605, -1); At the time when restoration and backup happen on that particular instance with new test db. I will check few thing I checked the disk read/write per sec. It also fine. It match with other instance disk read/write per sec when we take backup of other database in other instance From activity monitor i checked CPU I/O and match with other instance. Its fine Can i send you errorlog report ? what else i need to check from sql side.
