Bad Ass Movie: Abyssopelagic--sociologist May Weston (Naomi Watts) has always been fascinated by two subjects: serial killers and sharks. Particularly the megalodon, which is dentally almost identical to the great white, but believed to be extinct, yet it could easily feed deep underwater and, without a floatation bladder, would never wash ashore after death. She believes that there could exist a physically powerful, emotionally stable serial killer who is psychotic but lacking the usual Achilles heel of megalomania, and that such an individual would be much like a modern day megalodon, almost unstoppable and undetectable, feeding off of an indigent population and never leaving any calling cards or clues. Using state of the art software but following a relatively straightforward study charting unemployment numbers in hundreds of California towns and cities against expected homeless populations in those areas, she begins to detect a disturbing pattern. In one city, over the course of twenty years, there are thousands of unofficial and anecdotal missing persons reports. A local soup kitchen operator named Ray Garnet (Vincent DOnofrio) in particular catches her interest. And she catches his as well. Their shared interest in sharks and other apex predators leads them both down a dark road that neither is fully prepared for. B.A.M.!!
