Bad Decision for Wednesday: PAGING DR. FRAUD!! Pro-tip: if youre impersonating a doctor, its not enough to have scrubs, an alias, and a stethescope: it also helps to know theres no hospital in the town in which youre working. Thats the lesson learned by Joshua Abeyta, AKA Dr. Anthony Pena, who KTVK reports was pinched last week after allegedly asking a cop in Coolidge, Arizona, where the hospital was -- not realizing none existed. That piqued the highway patrol officers curiosity, and a search of the car that the phony physician was driving -- which belonged to his girlfriend -- allegedly turned up and various bits of medical gear, bags of pills -- some narcotic in nature and prescribed to others. Abeytas girlfriend reportedly thought Abeyta was an orthopedic surgeon; KTVK reports she told cops Dr. Pena allegedly treated her family members by handing out various medicine. The suspect, who in fact is an unemployed copper mine worker, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and cited for driving on a suspended license. Investigators are searching for more people who Dr. Pena may have treated.
