Badal crying Panth in danger but lost a crucial opportunity to save Rajoana from gallows: Times of India News JALANDHAR: When ruling Shiromani Akali Dal is desperately returning to Panthic turf and wants to consolidate its Sikh vote bank, Dal Khalsa has sought to put the party in the dock on the issue of getting clemency for Balwant Singh Rajoana, who faces death sentence and getting Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar released whose death sentence has been commuted after he spent 19 years in jail. He pointed out that there were reports that Punjab had neither said yes or no after union home ministry referred to it the case of clemency for Rajoana and returned the file without any recommendation. This exposes the double face of Badal led Akali government as it lost a crucial chance to recommend clemency for Rajoana, Dal Kahalsa spokesperson Kanwarpal Singh alleged. Now there are indications from the Union home ministry that home minister Rajnath Singh will be taking the call on Rajoanas clemency plea in the near future, he said. In the last few days chief minister Parkash Singh Badal met Union home minister Rajnath Singh twice to oppose the formation of separate committee for Haryana gurudwaras but he had no time for raising the issue of Rajoana and Bhullar, he said. Instead of taking up the cases of the prisoners including Rajoana and Professor Bhullar with Modi government, Akalis have embarked on a course that would further lead to internal bickering in the community thus bringing bad name to the Sikh diaspora, Dal Khalsa said. Appreciating Rajoana for his dedication and principled stance in not seeking clemency for him, he said it was up to Akali leadership to take the issue to its logical conclusion as it was they who petitioned before the President against his death sentence. Similarly, he said that the apex court has commuted death sentence of Professor Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar into life on March 31 last. Since he has already undergone 19 years behind bars and his medical condition is not good, apart from lip service Badals have not taken any practical step to ensure his release, Dal Kahlsa leader pointed out. He said that on one side Badal was raking up the issue of HSGMC and was even threatening to launch an agitation to oppose it but on other he was doing little about the issues in which he had the authority to do. timesofindia.indiatimes/city/chandigarh/Badal-crying-Panth-in-danger-but-lost-a-crucial-opportunity-to-save-Rajoana-from-gallows-Dal-Khalsa/articleshow/38932724.cms
