Bafana Bafana, Sudan AFCON 2015 qualifier moved to Durban The CAF Orange Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2015 qualifier between South Africa and Sudan on Saturday, 15 November 2014 has been moved from Mbombela in Nelspruit to Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. Kick-off is at 15h00. The encounter was moved to Durban following a request from the South African Football Association (SAFA) to play it in the hometown of Senzo Meyiwa to honour and pay tribute to the late goalkeeper and captain. The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and captain passed away on Sunday, 26 October from a gunshot on the East Rand in Johannesburg. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has in the meantime, granted permission for the match to be moved from Mbombela to Moses Mabhida. “We felt as an Association it was proper and fitting that this match be played in Durban to honour our fallen hero since he hailed from this part of the world,” said SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan. “The team will visit the Meyiwa family and the graveyard. This will give the team the opportunity for closure.” “We believe it will be a perfect send-off for Meyiwa after the heroics of the player helped the national team find itself in such a good position. I also want to pay tribute to eThekwini Municipality for accommodating us at such short notice and we will do our best to ensure this encounter is a success,” said the SAFA President. Bafana Bafana are top of Group A with eight points after four matches. South Africa has not conceded in all those matches with Meyiwa in goals and captaining the team. Congo is second with seven points followed by Nigeria on four while Sudan is bottom of the table with three points. Dr Jordaan has urged the fans to be part of this important and historical match. “Senzo would have been proud to don the national team jersey and lead his charges; Bafana Bafana head coach Shakes Mashaba has confirmed he was always first on his list. “We now urge the fans to come in numbers to make this a memorable farewell to our beloved hero whose wonderful performance put South Africa in an advantageous position to qualify for Morocco. Go out and get your tickets to be part of the festivities in honour of Senzo,” added Dr Jordaan. The SAFA President also thanked the Mbombela Municipality for their cooperation. “We would like to also thank the Mbombela Municipality for their understanding on this matter. We will engage them soon to stage a Bafana Bafana match there as part of repaying back for their support and teamwork,” concluded Dr Jordaan. Meyiwa will be buried in Umlazi near Durban on Saturday, 1 November 2014. Fans who bought tickets for Mbombela will get a refund or will use them for the Durban encounter.
