#Baghi, #Baghawat, #Democracy and #DecisionMaking: I respect Baghi - TopicsExpress

#Baghi, #Baghawat, #Democracy and #DecisionMaking: I respect Baghi but the timing of his (Javed Hashmis) disclosure --partial, hinting at army backing #IK after their disagreement about whether or not to take the #AzadiMarch deeper into the #RedZone; followed by a full-blown explicit articulation of (alleged) ISI-scripting, consequent to their parting of ways, his unceremonious dismissal from the party, coupled with the ground-zero developments (PTV particularly*) and COAS-NS meeting today--render his account seriously dubious. Even more so: Baghi having knowledge of all this, keeping it and his baghawat (rebellion) to himself, proceeding on the long march, albeit with a major show of revolt early on, and standing shoulder to shoulder with IK, delivering highly invigorated speeches expressing full support for IK. (See particularly the first speech in the rain near dawn in Islamabad, which even then struck me as an odd and harmful egging-on: repeating only IK PM.) Nevertheless, I must flag that IKs dismissal on the spot of an elected president of the party and party ministers, representatives elected by people, necessarily runs the heavy-duty risk of being attacked as undemocratic, badshahi and dictatorial -- and hence hypocritical, a deathly word for both the leaders and supporters of the party. However, there is a caveat here for me, not to defend blindly, based not only on the above considerable factors but also my personal experience of attempting to lead certain initiatives in a purely consensus-based, non-hierarchical manner. Particularly when youre trying to build anything on the perpetually shifting sands in this country there are bound to be serious emergencies, wherein in order for the entire enterprise to continue at all, matters need to be moved on war-footing. Consensus-building at such times is almost impossible, neither pragmatic nor prudent; at such times, I now hold that a leader or lean counsel of leaders have to take the entire burden of responsibility for decision-making -- and all else have to either trust the person or people at the helm and follow or get off the boat. Dissenting forces within at such times can do more damage than the opposition without. This is very precarious terrain but If there is any merit in this caveat, it applies to this particular as case in point, and it needs to be enshrined in as precise terms as possible in the party manifesto/constitution. *Note again: no police, no army personnel there to stop the storming of PTV, and no arrests made to get to the bottom of who did it! Video footage should be used to identify as many of the culprits as possible and expose who and what their affiliation/s is/are.
