Bagpipes could be heard in the air yesterday as our beautiful (if slightly nervous) Bride Emma made her way over from the Cartshed Lodge. The special music continued inside the barn as a recording of Emma’s dad playing the guitar accompanied her up the aisle to stand beside her Groom, Luke. After a very emotional (giggles and tears) ceremony and a beautiful reading our Bride and Groom were led around to the terrace by Luke’s uncle playing his bagpipes. The weather picked up just at the critical moment, allowing drinks and canapés to be served in the sunshine and some fantastic group photographs. Having wandered inside out of the wind, the new Mrs Holden revealed a secret cake topper for our Groom which featured the Bride in her stunning gown and Luke…in his work gear of course – complete with tools, paint splashes and holes! Another triumph from Maria Clouting Celebration Cakes. It caused a bit of a stir and a lot of laughs but we’re glad that Luke made the effort for this special day and he definitely looked the business! Our very much in love Bride and Groom took a walk in the gardens for some gorgeous photos and after an emergency bucket of water and cloth helped us to remove the mud from Emma’s dress and shoes, the new Mr and Mrs Holden took their seats at the Top table ready to share their wedding breakfast with their nearest and dearest. Our Bride and Groom seem well matched in terms of creativity and the individual touches dotted around the Barn were beautiful. The combination of log centrepieces made by Luke and the delicate touch of pink rose petals and candlelight really complemented the Barn and added to the relaxed atmosphere. Guests took their seats and tucked into a starter of goat’s cheese and caramelised red onion toastlets, before a select few were asked to report to Chef in the kitchen for carving duties. The loin of pork was wonderfully carved by our (mostly eager) carvers, including Father of the bride much to the delight of the happy couple. This was followed by a dessert of three miniature treats including the legendary Southwood lemon posset went down well and even earned our Chefs an impromptu round of applause! After coffee the Father of the Bride called order as he shared some heartfelt words of wisdom for our lovely couple (and also dished the dirt on ‘Pukey Lukey’ and his messy stag do!) before our emotional Groom poured his heart out and Luke’s father and Best man for the day reiterated how proud he was of the adorable love birds. Having run out of tissues for Luke’s tears, he pulled himself together and started about the serious business of partying hard. Our couple had previously spent a lot of time discussing their evening catering (it was the focus of many a meeting for Luke), so they were looking forward to indulging in fresh pizzas, hot doughnuts and their s’mores bar! It has been such a pleasure to be a part of your big day Mr and Mrs Holden and I only hope that Emma gets her two Christmas presents this year!! :)
