Bailey and I had a quick trip outside this Sunday morning and it - TopicsExpress

Bailey and I had a quick trip outside this Sunday morning and it was not quite as cold as the last several mornings. We had a very enjoyable evening yesterday as my youngest daughter, her husband and their three children came and had a delicious dinner withus, prepared by my wife. Since they have moved to Franklin, TN, we dont get to see them as much as we would like. We still did not get any Christmas shopping done. I know everybody is scurring around trying to get everything ready for Christmas, decorating and buying presents. It is a good time for us to remember Christs birth, even if we dont know the actual day of the month or the actual month of the year, the consensus is, it was not December 25th. I did just a little Internet research to see what some sites say. Let me emphasize, I dont agree with everything on these sites, but there are some good points brought out. From one web site that offers some good points: ucg.org/bible-faq/when-was-jesus-christ-born-was-jesus-born-december-25-christmas-day First, we know that shepherds were in the fields watching their flocks at the time of Jesus birth (Luke 2:7-8). Shepherds were not in the fields during December. According to Celebrations: The Complete Book of American Holidays, Lukes account suggests that Jesus may have been born in summer or early fall. Since December is cold and rainy in Judea, it is likely the shepherds would have sought shelter for their flocks at night (p. 309). Second, Jesus parents came to Bethlehem to register in a Roman census (Luke 2:1-4). Such censuses were not taken in winter, when temperatures often dropped below freezing and roads were in poor condition. Taking a census under such conditions would have been self-defeating. Another site presents some very interesting points, also. From https://bible.org/article/birth-jesus-christ Although Christs birth is extremely important to Christians, of more importance to us is the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. Without which, we would all be condemned to eternal death and not eternal life, provided we follow after Him.
