Bakit nga ba ang daming matitinding review sa movie ni La Aunor? Kaya daw pala tinawag na Superstar..kasi matindi talaga sa acting... napanood mo na ba ang Dementia? Narito ang trailer, panoorin natin. The recently released ‘Dementia’ which stars Nora Aunor as Mara, a woman faced with dementia and strange occurrences in her ancestral home, has been getting a lot of great reviews. Why? The recently released 2014 Filipino psychological horror/drama film ‘Dementia‘, which stars Nora Aunor, is directed by Perci Intalan, his directorial debut actually, and released under Regal Films. It is a story about Mara, a woman faced with dementia and strange occurrences in her ancestral home. In the hopes of helping her aunt Mara (Nora Aunor) better deal with her dementia, Rachel (Jasmine Curtis) moves her out to their family’s remote ancestral home. There Rachel records Mara’s daily activities and helps engage the older woman in exercises that would help her cognitive thinking, such as putting together jigsaw puzzles. What Rachel didn’t plan on is that Mara’s presence in the house will stir up memories and presences that are better left undisturbed. Sounds like your ordinary horror film? But no, the La Aunor starred film has been getting a lot of great reviews and the following are just a few, as gathered from different people’s published reviews. Miriam Mahusay, a University of Cebu professor posted: Truth be told, I am so picky when it comes to books and movies, but this Nora Aunor ‘Dementia’ blew me away to regions I have yet to discover. While commonplace actors speak to tell a story to be understood, Aunor simply tells the story by looking at us from the depths of her heart… Those eyes could bring you to a roller coaster ride of emotions… I spent the whole time not breathing so as not to miss a scene…What a treasure! Eric Cabahug, a Filipino scriptwriter, songwriter, photographer, and journalist wrote in his Interaksyon article: “Dementia” is that rare Filipino horror drama that packs a solid emotional wallop. You won’t forget it soon after leaving the theater. Nora Aunor totally matches the swirling forces of nature on display throughout the movie with a dervish of a performance that involves very little spoken dialogue. It’s mostly ferociously internal until the devastating climax where, still wordless, her face erupts into a panorama of heartbreak, anguish, sorrow, guilt, regret, terror, and, finally, resignation and surrender. It’s unforgettable. Dr. J. Pilapil Jacobo, Young Critics Circle (YCC) As a madwoman, Nora Aunor enthralls, with “fear and trembling.” When she is turned into an instrument of a final thesis of malevolence, she must intimate a queer resistance to the “birth of the clinic.” That she has become a pedagogue to young performers is fortunate, although the results of the instruction are varied: Chynna Ortaleza’s one-note panic; Althea Vega’s dusky distress; and Jasmine Curtis Smith’s syncopated dread. It is to the latter that Aunorian thunder is perfectly calibrated.” Pablo A. Tariman of Philippine Star described it as A STIRRING FILM ON THE STRANGE LABYRINTH OF THE MIND There is no denying that the cemetery scene of La Aunor was as gripping and mind-blowing as she comes to terms with people from her past… Indeed, this is La Aunor at one of her best moments on screen. For a few seconds, her face registers both the good and happy past and the sad, if, twisted, turns of events in her life. If only for this moment, the actress deserves another round of acting honors. Armando de la Cruz of the Film Police Reviews gave Dementia this description: CURIOUS ALCHEMY, CINEMATIC VICTORY Nora Aunor turns films into events; characters into magnified views of those characters. Here her celebrated eye-acting, endless and translucent, is a sight breath-taking on its own; it converges with the northern chill imbued by the film’s eerie misty seascapes that signal dread always within breathable proximity. Dementia is still showing in theaters nationwide. Watch the video trailer: https://youtube/watch?v=1tuVO2cSnNg
