Baldwin Mbuzi, in his wisdom, decided to throw this challenge in my court. I do not know whether I have the tenacity to rise to the occasion. However, you, my colleagues, will be judges. (1) I am grateful to Tholopas village in Luwingu District, Northern Province, Zambia, where my formative years were moulded by the simplicity of rural life. The rich values of the people around me helped shape my deep respect for the profound truth that all human beings are created equal in Gods image and His likeness. (2) I am grateful to God for early exposure to Roman Catholic Church discipline of committed service as an alter boy, rising up early in the morning to prepare for and serve in the mass everyday before going to school. This discipline has served me throughout my life and has taught me the need to be dedicated to a cause and to serve without expecting to be remunerated. (3) I am grateful to God for rare privilege of participation in the political struggle and emancipation of the then Northern Rhodesia, now the Republic of Zambia, from the shackles of British colonial rule. The values of God given freedom for His peoples, equitable justice for all, equality among all Gods people, and the need to stand up for ones convictions against all odds were embedded in my psyche then.
