Balitang OFW Repost :::::::::::::: ATTENTION ::::::::::::::::::: 342,000 PINOYS IN QATAR | Govt issues 5 new rules for expats July 11, 2013 MANILA – The Ministry of Interior of Qatar has issued a list of five rules and reminders from expatriates and migrant workers in that country, the Philippine embassy there said in an advisory dated July 10. Citing a July 7 meeting with the ministry, Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Crescente Relacion issued Embassy Circular No. CRR-58-2013, which said: 1. All expatriates must always bring with them their Qatar IDs. Failing to do so could warrant a penalty amounting to QAR 10,000 (or about P119,316). 2. Using a private vehicle as a taxi could be punishable with a fine and deportation. 3. Selling items at public places or on the streets with necessary permits is an offense. 4. Sheltering workers who escaped from their sponsors is a crime. Harboring an abscondee could be punishable with an imprisonment of not more than two years and a fine of QAR10,000. 5. Workers who escaped from their sponsors who will voluntarily surrender to the Search and Followup Department, will be repatriated after applicable procedures without detention. Ambassador Relacion advised overseas Filipino workers in Qatar to “abide by the host country’s laws and regulations to ensure a smooth stay.” According to stock estimates of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, there are about 342,000 Filipinos in Qatar, fewer than 20 are permanent, about 300,000 temporary, and about 13,000 irregular. #ad_mahal
