Ballina, New South Wales Shire Council have just sent out as - TopicsExpress

Ballina, New South Wales Shire Council have just sent out as letter signed by the Mayor Cr David Wright seeking feedback on a proposal to increase our rates by an extras 2.5% above the anticipated 3% for the next two years. Here is my feedback. At the end of last financial year there was a flurry of activity probably because council had money that needed to be spent. If so just one example of poor financial management. I could list more but it would sound like a rant. Two restaurant premises owned by council had been empty for nearly two years. both in prime locations. The old Pelican thankfully has just reopened. The Shelley Beach Cafe sits empty and looking quite derelict. I imagine a considerable amount of revenue was lost by these venues being empty. Im not a fan of parking fines but if you are going to have time limits on parking then police it more than the rare amount of policing that happens now. Council needs to get out of business that it doesnt belong in. Concentrate on creating an environment that attracts new residents and visitors and additional income will flow through from both rates and the exorbitant fees that are charged to new businesses and developers. In addition get lean and efficient. Maybe you should consider selling the pool to private enterprise on a condition that an upgrade takes place. Also consider that there is an indoor swimming pool at Swim n Gym that serves the community very well. Is the proposed upgraded council facility going to generate an increase in council competing with ratepayers? Damn it did turn into a rant. Rant over.
