Balogun Segun , I read the narrative of Gbogun Gburo in respect of Catalonia in the The Nation,and I had always believed that disgruntled indigenous groups should take advantage of their prerogative to self determination,as it is legitimately inherent in the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples adopted by the UN,through referendum. We must begin to enlighten our people that Catalonia, Scotland, Crimea ,etc ,really did not require the imprimatur of their central governments before deeming it fit to test the popularity of their agitations. It is fair that we had been reasonable enough to have intellectualized our demands,exhaustively embracing dialogues,and altruistic enough in suing for Regional Autonomy as a restructuring model that will be mutually beneficial to all regions in Nigeria,even when its within our rights as organised humans to radically deviate from our rote pacifism,and outrightly demand secession. I love how the Catalonians rationalised their plebiscite. It was termed non binding referendum. Why cant we start from there. We can, if elders we look up to as leaders will cease making the last national conference come across as a success.
