Balsall Common Festival 2014. The Balsall Common Fete will be back this year, bigger and better than ever before. The fete has been renamed the Balsall Common Festival to reflect its growing size and range of activities. This year it will also feature Balsall Common’s first ever Fun Run, organised in partnership with the Lily Mae Foundation - a charity based in Balsall Common that supports parents and families that have lost a baby to stillbirth or neonatal death. The Festival and Fun Run will take place on Saturday 20th September as part of a full day and evening of events and activities in Balsall Common. The day will kick off with a 5k and 10k Fun Run at noon starting and finishing at the Heart of England School. After that at 1.00pm, the focus moves to the Lant (the cricket and tennis club ground) where there will be a fete, market, children’s activities, games and a children’s fun run. As the day progresses the entertainment builds and the evening will see a Party in the Park with live music. Organisers are hoping to build on the great success of the first two years of the Balsall Common Fete. Chair of the Festival Committee Craig Burgess said: “This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever before. The new name signals our determination to provide more activities and entertainment so there really is something for everyone. The event is by the community for the community and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of local groups, volunteers and generous sponsors. We are delighted to announce that Acorn Printing, John Shepherd, Hollywood Monster, Nailcote Hall and Unity Coventry – Carstins have already agreed to support the Festival or Fun Run this year.” Ryan Jackson, Chair of the Lily Mae Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in this year’s Balsall Common Festival. Many other places have Fun Runs and we felt it was about time Balsall Common did too!” The Fun Run will be one of 10 events the Lily Mae Foundation organises this year, and in the last 12 months they have raised over £40,000 to help families affected by stillbirth and neonatal death.
