Banana ketchup (catsup to many Pinoys). Borne out of ingenuity, a Filipino invention. The lack of tomatoes during WW2 gave birth to this alternative. It also cost much lower. Favorite among Filipino kids for its sweeter taste compared to tomatoes. There are many Pinoy foods that arguably taste better with banana ketchup than tomato ketchup, i.e. fried pork chop, fried chicken. It is also healthier than its tomato counterpart because it uses less sugar as bananas are naturally sweeter than tomatoes.
