Banana prices to remain stable The price of poovan banana, karpooravalli and nendran varieties is expected to remain stable till mid-February, say trade sourcesPoovan, the commercial cultivar of southern and north-eastern states is grown extensively in Tamil Nadu, owing to its climatic and marginal soil conditions. Apart from the high demand for the fruit and leaf during festive seasons, the rate is consistent and stable. It is presently quotingat Rs. 30 a kg in the wholesale commission market here.Karpooravalli, a popular table variety is grown in central and southern districts of Tamil Nadu and parts of Kerala. The inflowsin the commission mandies have been consistent this year. It is therefore expected to remain stable at around Rs. 30 akg, say trade sources.The commercial cultivation of Nendran, a popular variety in Kerala, has picked up rapidly in Tamil Nadu in recent years. It is quoting at Rs. 45 a kg in the wholesale commission market here.
