Band Offer Their Hits This month sees the premiere of writer Wayne Miller’s play, The Big Hit, at The Customs House in South Shields. The Big Hit tells the story of three of the world’s worst hitmen, all stuck in a briefing room fighting it out for a one million pound job. Only not all is as it seems with these hitmen – and the hit they are so desperate to steal from each other. This brand new production features an all North East cast but will also showcase a local bands music. The hugely popular band Jen Stevens & The Hiccups have long been a favorite of the writers. Having been in the audience of their gigs and also sharing the same stage as the band when he was part of the well known act Shake Ya Tailfeather. Writer and director Wayne feels music in a play is just as important as the words and the action within the piece. With the correct music and sound design in a play you can carry emotion and context, so choosing is very important! Im such a fan of Jen Stevens & The Hiccups as a band but also as people, so them allowing me to use a few of their tracks means a lot to me. Wayne hopes in the future to create a play using all north east music from local bands and musicians, showcasing what the region has to offer. I shouldnt need to mention the list of musical talent that the North East has given birth to, but we can include Sting, Mark Knopfler, Brian Johnson, John Miles, Alan Price and i cant forget my South Shields favorites Little Mix. The talent is outstanding and some of the best talent doesnt get to shine as bright as they should. So i hope more of my plays can feature more local music. The Big Time opens this Tues 23rd and runs till Friday 26th Sept at The Customs House in South Shields. Tickets on sale at The Box Office 01914541234 For more info on Jen Stevens & The Hiccups visit jenstevens.co.uk
