Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) is a Tri-Services Para-military organization comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force. Bangladesh National Cadet Corps is entrusted with the task of grooming the future leaders and finding the hidden potentials of youths. Established with the aim of developing moral standards and leadership qualities in young men and women. BNCC is an organization consisting of Defense services officers, junior commissioned officers (JCOs) and Non commissioned officers (NCOs) civilian officers & staffs, teaching staffs and students from different educational institutions. Ministry of Defense administratively controls this organization. BNCC History: After the university of Dhaka was established (1921) the Corps initiated its activities under the provisions of the Indian Territorial Forces Act, 1923. Captain E. Groom, the first Adjutant of the Corps, imparted military training to 100 students and 16 teachers in November 1927. University Training Corps was officially founded in June 1928. In 1943 the name of the Corps was changed to University Officers Training Corps (UOTC). The members of this Corps took part in the war of liberation in 1971. After liberation, Bangladesh Cadet Corps comprising college students, and Junior Cadet Corps comprising junior students, were formed in addition to University Officers Training Corps. On 23 March 1979 University Officers Training Corps, Bangladesh Cadet Corps and Junior Cadet Corps were all merged by Maj Gen. Ziaur Rahman with a government order to form. Organization: At present, BNCC headquarters is located in 32 Isha Kha Avenue, Sector 6, Uttara Dhaka. To assist the Director General. The HQ has two branches namely Training and Recruitment Branch and Administrative branch. 1. Training and Recruitment Branch: It is headed by a Lieutenant Colonel and has four wings named as Army wing, Naval wing, Air wing, Record wing. Training, enrollment, employment and control of cadets and teachers are done by this branch. 2. Administrative Branch: A civilian officer of the rank of a Deputy Secretary heads this branch. It has three sub branches namely Administrative, Accounts, and Ordinance branch. Provision of administrative support for the training, budgeting and purchase & management of equipment is done by this branch. BNCC Wing: At present BNCC has: 1. Army wing : 05 Regiment 2. Naval wing : 03 Flotillas 3. Air wing : 03 Squadrons 05 Army Regiments Name & Location: 1. Ramna Regiment (Uttara Dhaka in HQ ) 2. Karnafuli Regiment (Kulshi,Chittagong) 3. Mainamati Regiment (Alekher Chor, Commila) 4. Mahasthan Regiment (Shakura Road, Shal Bagan, Rajsahe) 5. Sundarban Regiment (Shiromony Residential Area, Khulna). A regiment has five battalions, each of which is commanded by a Bangladesh Territorial Forces Officer (BTFO) of the rank of Major. A BTFO is basically teaching staffs who is comprised of five companies and each company has three platoons. Each company has a company commander from the teaching staff. Every platoon has a Professor Under Officer (PUO) / Teacher Under Officer (TUO) and a Non Commission Officer (NCO) for the training of the platoon. 03 Naval Flotillas Name & Location: 1. Dhaka Flotillas 2. Chittagong Flotillas 3. Khulna Flotillas 03 Air Squadrons Name & Location: 1. Dhaka Squadrons 2. Chittagong Squadrons 3. Jesshore Squadrons The HQ of this Air & Naval wing co-located with HQ BNCC at Uttara, Dhaka. The local regiment provides the support for their training activities. BNCC Motto is Knowledge Discipline and Unity Knowledge is defined variously as: 1. Expertise, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject. 2. What is known in a particular field or in total; facts and information? 3. Awareness or familiarity gained by experience of a fact or situation. Philosophical debates in general start with Platos formulation of knowledge as justified true belief. Not only for the cadets even as a man has knowledge had acquisition involved complex cognitive processes: perception, learning, communication, association and reasoning. The term knowledge is also used to mean the confident understanding of a subject with the ability to use it for a specific purpose if appropriate. So knowledge is the utmost reflection of the motto of Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC). Discipline is defined variously as: Man lives in society. So he must obey some laws to keep order and maintain peace. Discipline consists in the obeying of these laws. It’s necessary from the beginning of a man’s life. A Cadet must be taught to rise early, to attend his lessons regularly to bath properly and to his meals at the right time. He must also be taught to do all things properly. So that he may be good and useful disciplined member of the society. Cadets should have discipline in nature, in the family, in the institutions, in social affairs, in administration, even in the playground. A cadet must obey the Rules, Regulations and all the directives of the organization strictly. No cadet should question to orders of seniors. Unity is defined variously as: The unities of place, time and action gives an in word force to complete any work smoothly. Unity gives the teachings of do or die together. At the same time it implies the feelings of the uniform personnel (as like Cadets) to follow the all norms and internal relation at the same way. There are five objectives set for BNCC as follows: 1. To develop individual character, leadership qualities, sense of dedication to national service and comradeship in young men and women. 2. To provide military training to young men and women so as to stimulate their interest for the defense of the country. 3. To provide disciplined volunteers for national development programmers and during national calamities. 4. To provide a second line defense in face of external aggression. 5. To build up a reserve of potential leaders for various walks of national life including the armed forces. Incentive of Cadets: 1. Bonus Marks Through Military Science Subject: Regular cadets are allowed to participate in the certificate course on military science in the University of Dhaka, and academic credit towards their Degree (Pass and Honors) final examinations is awarded in the form of addition of marks up to 25 obtained by them in the certificate course over pass marks. 2. Adventure training / Study tour: Different institutions with prior permission of HQ BNCC arrange adventure training / Sturdy tour. In such occasion, necessary expenses are borne from the BNCC fund of that institution 3. Abroad Visit: Under Youth Exchange Programme between Bangladesh-India, Bangladesh-Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh-Maldives. Our Cadets visits these three countries every year. It has started since 1983, which is a reciprocal arrangement. 4. Training Allowance: Besides the cadets get training allowances once they join in any training activities. 5. Daily Allowance: Other than training allowance they also receive daily allowance while on any activities in BNCC. BNCC Training Military Training: The military training syllabus accomplishes elementary knowledge on following subjects: 1. Drill 2. Weapon training 3. Field craft and physical training 4. Organization 5. Minor tactics 6. Military history 7. Military science 8. Unconventional warfare 9. Map reading 10. First aid, hygiene and sanitation 11. Command and leadership Other Types of Training: 12. Leadership training 13. Unarmed combat training 14. Repelling 15. Sailing and Pulling course for the naval cadets. 16. Fire Fighting and Civil Defense Course 17. Winter Collective training 18. Independent National Day Parade training 19. Advance Leadership training 20. First Aid training 21. Computer training 22. Small Arms Firing training 23. Small Arms Firing training 24. Band Platoon training etc. Other Activities: Besides receiving military & other types of training the cadets are also involved in social work like serving distressed people and other nation building activities when it is required. The cadets observe various national and international days like International Mother Language day, Ozone day, traffic week, hygiene and Sanitation week, Cleanliness and literacy campaign etc. These activities are carried out in the form of rallies, motivation and staging cultural programmer that highlight the purpose. The cadets have participated in national building and other social and national activities such as: Platoon Activities: 1. Tree Plantation 2. Blood Donation 3. Assisting fire fighting 4. Disaster relief operation including rehabilitation 5. Relief distribution 6. Assisting in first aid, hygiene & Sanitation 7. Social awareness for eve testing, acid throwing, early marriage, AIDS, drag. 8. Literacy program A cadet is also trained on other subjects that help him to build his confidence. These subjects include. BNCC Camp Annual Training Exercise (ATE): Besides the above-mentioned training, the cadets learn comradeship, customs and etiquette, obedience, tolerance and above all discipline in the annual training camp. The training helps them to be more active, diligent and punctual. The annual training camp also breaks the monotony from studies. Debates, sports and cultural competitions are also arranged in annual. Central Training Exercise (CTE): This training is planned at HQ level. Cadets and earmarked teachers from all the Regiments and the Wings take part in this training. A total of about 400 cadets take part. This Regiment is given the responsibility to conduct this training at Baipal (BNCC Academy), Savar. It is scheduled to be held in the month of Feb in every year. Specific time will be given by the Head Quarter of BNCC. Winter Collective Training (WCT): BNCC cadets of senior division participate with the nearby Army Formation during their winter collective training for duration of two weeks. Battalion Annual Training Exercise: To over-come short falls of the platoon level training, Capsule training is organized on an area basis under Battalion responsibility. Cadets irrespective of their institutions are grouped together from platoon’s location in the camp area and a 7-10 days crush-trg (residential/nonresidential) program is conducted under the strict supervision of Battalion Commander and Adjutant.
