Bangladeshi film-makers have gone on strike to protest against showing an Indian movie here claiming that it will destroy the Bangladeshi film industry. But they fail to realise that West Bengal makes better Bangla films than Bangladesh does and that too while Bollywood films are shown there. In fact, it is perhaps because of the competition that they face that has made their films better than ours. Before Hollywood movies were shown in Star Cineplex there was hardly any good Bangla movies. But when Star picked up and created an appetite, that is when better Bangla movies started coming up and we could again go watch Bangla movies with our families. So lets get out of this petty nationalism (shosta jatiotabaad) and appreciate the fact that art has no boundaries. (This status also applies to West Bengal which refuses to allow Bangladeshi channels to be shown there).
