Baptism - I have a couple questions first! - Do you love the Lord and How do we show we love Him? - John 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him. - John 14:23-24 Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Fathers who sent Me. - Is it important to keep the Lords Word? - John 8:51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he will never see death. - It is clear that if we dont keep The Lords word then we dont love Him! {John 14:23-24} - What i don’t understand is how people say baptism has nothing to do with salvation, Baptism sure sounds like a salvation issue to me since if we don’t obey the Lord, He says we don’t love Him and if we don’t love Him we are not His. - What were the words Christ said before He went home to be with the Father? - Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. - What was the example Jesus set for us concerning Baptism? - Matthew 3:13 [ The Baptism of Jesus ] Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John, to be baptized by him. - Matthew 3:16 After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, - Mark 1:9 [ The Baptism of Jesus ] In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. - Luke 3:21-22 Now when ALL THE PEOPLE were baptized, JESUS WAS ALSO BAPTIZED, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.” - Did anyone receive the Holy Spirit before getting Baptized? - The only time i remember seeing anyone receive the Holy Spirit before baptism is in the case of Cornelius and his household. When they were all together after receiving the Holy Spirit they were ordered by Peter to get baptized. - Acts 10:46-48 For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Then Peter answered, Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he? AND he ORDERED THEM TO BE BAPTIZED in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days. - In the next scripture it says Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. - Acts 2:38-42 Peter said to them, Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself. And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation! So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. - So in one verse we saw that Cornelius and his household received the Holy Spirit before getting baptized ( but they did get baptized) and in another verses we saw that people received the Holy Spirit after being baptized! Well it just seems to me that as soon as we are able, we should be baptized because we love Christ and if we love Him we keep His Word. - Acts 8:37-39 [And Philip said, If you believe with all your heart, you may. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.] And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing. - It is clear that if we love Christ we will submit to His word and will be baptized (if we are able). It has nothing to do with a works salvation but is commanded by Christ himself. Those who love Him and all who believed in Him were baptized without exception. I also see it is possible for someone to receive the Holy Spirit before being baptized but they all submit to being baptized! The sad thing is that there are many who have such great teachings all backed up with the Word of God but for some reason when it comes to obeying a simple command Jesus gave about being Baptized they rebel against Him and try to explain His Word away. Why fight against the Word of God? - Isaiah 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts. - One more thing, that i have not yet touched on, is that many have said that the Apostles did not get baptized, so basically they are saying that the Apostles disobeyed the Lord. - In the following passage who do they think the US and WEare? Yes, the Apostles were also baptized... - Romans 6:3-7 Or do you not know that ALL OF US who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin.
