Baptism—The Beginning of the Journey Merely presenting children for Baptism is not enough. Parents must hand on Christian values system. This of course, presumes they have faith. Children imitate their parents in many ways and that in-cludes their value system. If parents dont have faith, the seed at Baptism will not grow. There must be a reason-able hope that the child must be brought up in the faith. If it is absent, Baptism should be delayed and an expla-nation given to parents. When a child is baptised it is presupposed that not only must parents be people of faith but also the sponsors Being human, our faith is not perfect; it needs nourish-ment—regular attendance at Sunday Mass is one sure way to nourish our faith. Absence weakens it. In the ceremony of Baptism parents are reminded that they are the first teachers of their children in the ways of faith. They do this by example—what they say and do. Therefore, it is important that children grow up in a household of faith.
